1 Thessalonians, Chapter 3 (Pauline Epistles)

Concerning Their Faith

1So when we could no longer endure, we were pleased to be left in Athens alone,{1} 2and sent Timothy our brother and minister of God,{2} and our fellow worker[1] in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and to encourage you about our faith,{3} 3so no one will be drawn aside[2] by these afflictions.{4} For you yourselves know that to this we are appointed, 4for even when we were with you, we said before[3] to you that we are about to be afflicted,[4]{5} as also it happened,[5] and you know.[6] 5Therefore when I could[7] no longer endure, I sent to know of your faith,{6} lest somehow the tempting one tempted you,{7} and in vain became our labor.{8}

Timothy’s Encouraging Report

6But now that Timothy has come to us from you,{9} and annouced to us the good news of your faith and love,{10} and that you have good rememberance of us always, longing to see us, even as also we you.{11} 7For these reasons we were comforted,{12} brothers, because of[8] you, in all our affliction and distress, through your faith, 8because now we live if you stand in the Lord.{13} 9For what thanks are we able to return to God concerning you,{14} over all the joy with which we rejoice because of[9] you before our God,{15} 10night and day abundantly petitioning to see your face, and to complete the things lacking your faith?{16}

Prayer for the Church

11And our God and Father Himself, and our Lord, Jesus Christ, may He direct our way to you,{17} 12and the Lord make you to abound in and to exceed in love toward one another and toward all,{18} even as we also are toward you, 13to establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father,{19} in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, with all His saints.{20}
